wanner farm methane capture

We were talking last night about the environmental impact of farming. Runoff from cattle waste can contaminate the water supply, and the methane produced by decomposition of manure is a potent greenhouse gas. My uncle Alfred and his sons John and Matthew are making some interesting efforts to reduce the environmental impact of their business. They are containing the waste and using it to generate electricity, which they are able to sell back to the local utility. When they started their project, they estimated that they would see a return on their investment within 15 years. They now think it will be much sooner because of rising energy prices.

A grant from the Sustainable Energy Fund (SEF) of Central Eastern Pennsylvania helped offset some of the cost of their project.
